Starting to settle in. I spent most of the morning tweaking rigging and napping, and I set up the jacklines, which are the safety lines that keep you from falling out of the boat. I rigged them high enough that if I do go down, I will not go all the way into the water, which seems like the kind of small detail worth getting right.

Wind has been very consistent and climbing slowly through the day, averaging between sixteen and eighteen knots for most of the afternoon. I have added some easting to the course to follow a favourable current. You will see the line on the tracker turn back to the west at some point. I am playing with a couple of options, and one of them might bring us close to some Mexican islands to grab a bit of speed boost from the wind there.

Set up the fishing gear. Caught a nice-sized skipjack, which I let go, only to discover shortly afterward that both lures had since been quietly removed by other fish. Sigh. Pulled out the sextant and took my first sights of this leg. That will become a daily occurrence, one to three times a day, to track our position the slow way. Quite sleepy, and a few naps so far as I adjust back to this kind of life.
