A nice night. We were able to sail for most of it in smooth gentle seas, around ten knots, with the boat keeping six to seven and turning out a respectable amount of ground for the trouble. It was an active night for seamanship duties: a few non-AIS boats to track, a couple of jibes, and a switch to motoring at least once. A beautiful three-quarter waning moon kept me company throughout.

This morning we are passing the last bit of land for a while, which simplifies things by a useful amount. I am steering with the wind and trying to stay in favourable currents, so the path on the chart will wander, and that is on purpose, not on beer. Weather is good. It is six-thirty and I am on deck in my underwear, so sunscreen will be the order of the day. All things considered, day one was a great day.
