I assume this is just a really big flying fish. I did not know they had a spike at the end. Apparently it is a needlefish, according to ChatGPT. Specifically, a Mexican Needlefish (Tylosurus crocodilus fodiator), also called a houndfish locally. They are everywhere in the Sea of Cortez, especially around La Paz, Espiritu Santo, and Cabo. Long silver-blue body, narrow as a pencil, very long beak with tiny teeth, and they often jump onto boats at night when lights attract them. Commonly thirty to seventy centimetres, but they can get over a metre. Mine looks like a juvenile.

A really big flying fish, except for the spike at the end. ChatGPT identified it as a Mexican Needlefish.
